The joint municipal waste company Vendsyssel Vest (AVV) employs over 100 employees and has a politically elected board of directors. AVV operates 18 recycling sites distributed around the two municipalities, Hjørring and Brønderslev. In addition, AVV operates a waste energy plant, a recycling center, a transhipment station, three landfills and a composting plant.
